Scripture:
LUKE 24:44-49
LUKE 24:44-49 (NIV) He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.  He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.  I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
Life Lessons from Jesus:
Jesus makes good not only on His promises, but on all prophecies concerning Himself. He reminds His disciples that, “… it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.” Jesus fulfilled it and the disciples witnessed it. Here, He was fulfilling prophecy just by standing there alive before His disciples—and He wasn’t even done fulfilling all of His prophecies yet. Throughout His ministry, Jesus pointed out prophecies and the fulfillment of them so others could believe without a doubt in their minds. He went out of His way to ensure people understood and could connect the dots. It’s important to Him that we can have confidence in the truth, that He wasn’t just making claims to who He is out of nowhere.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
How does the fulfillment of prophecy help you trust more in God?
Have any prophetic fulfillments really stood out to you? Which ones and why?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for always fulfilling Your promises and prophecies. You took care to ensure that we would know it really was You who came down to earth, even living this much later. Help me to trust more and more in You as I continue on this journey. In Your name, Amen.
