Scripture:
LUKE 10:1-12
Later the Lord chose 72 other followers and sent them out two by two to every town and village where he was about to go.  He said to them: A large crop is in the fields, but there are only a few workers. Ask the Lord in charge of the harvest to send out workers to bring it in. Now go, but remember, I am sending you like lambs into a pack of wolves. Don't take along a moneybag or a traveling bag or sandals. And don't waste time greeting people on the road.  As soon as you enter a home, say, “God bless this home with peace.”  If the people living there are peace-loving, your prayer for peace will bless them. But if they are not peace-loving, your prayer will return to you. Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever they give you, because workers are worth what they earn. Don't move around from house to house. If the people of a town welcome you, eat whatever they offer. Heal their sick and say, “God's kingdom will soon be here!” But if the people of a town refuse to welcome you, go out into the street and say, “We are shaking the dust from our feet as a warning to you. And you can be sure that God's kingdom will soon be here!” I tell you that on the day of judgment the people of Sodom will get off easier than the people of that town! LUKE 10:1-12 (CEV)
Life Lessons from Jesus:
Hopefully, Jesus just took a great weight off your shoulders. You are not in charge of the harvest. Only Christ has the power to save. You’re needed out in the field to spread His love and message, but people’s reactions, their final decisions, those are not on you. Being rejected is rough. Not knowing how you’ll be received is draining. Wanting something better for someone and watching them turn it down can be soul-crushing. But it’s not up to us. God just needs our willingness, our heart for Him, and then He is in charge of what happens from there. He will do the harvesting if His workers do the planting. And planting comes in all manners of ways. Live your life alongside God and keep your heart open and loving. Be an example. Listen for what He’s asking of you. Then know that it’s ultimately in His hands.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
How do you see yourself as a worker right now, out in the world planting seeds?
What more do you think God might be asking you to do personally?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to plant seeds in the way I live my life—under Your guidance, strength, and love. Help me to let go of the outcome and trust that You are in control. And please, send more workers to join us. Amen.
