Leg 3 Day 60
“Restoring Life to Lazarus”
Jesus Through Us
< BACK
Scripture:
JOHN 11:38-46
JOHN 11:38-46 (CEV) Jesus was still terribly upset. So he went to the tomb, which was a cave with a stone rolled against the entrance.  Then he told the people to roll the stone away. But Martha said, “Lord, you know that Lazarus has been dead four days, and there will be a bad smell.” Jesus replied, “Didn't I tell you that if you had faith, you would see the glory of God?” After the stone had been rolled aside, Jesus looked up toward heaven and prayed, “Father, I thank you for answering my prayer. I know that you always answer my prayers. But I said this, so the people here would believe you sent me.” When Jesus had finished praying, he shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”  The man who had been dead came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with strips of burial cloth, and a cloth covered his face. Jesus then told the people, “Untie him and let him go.” Many of the people who had come to visit Mary saw the things Jesus did, and they put their faith in him.  Others went to the Pharisees and told what Jesus had done. Some of them said, “He gives sight to the blind. Why couldn't he have kept Lazarus from dying?”
Life Lessons from Jesus:
If Lazarus can be dead for four days and still be brought back to life, Jesus is more than capable of giving life to you as well. No matter how deep or shallow the pit of despair, how heavy the world might feel, no matter what you’ve experienced or done, He is here, waiting, ready to walk you out of the dark places. He has compassion for you and cares about what you’ve been through. Everyone present at the tomb thought Lazarus was too far gone. Jesus knew their doubts well enough that He made a point of spelling out his prayer to God in front of them so they would connect the miracle with Him and note the link to His Father. Even if you’ve doubted or walked away, if you’ve been gone a while and feel too damaged, or if you’re showing up committed every day and still feeling hopeless and beat down by the world, Jesus can bring you new life. He is always calling, ready to pull us into the light if we let Him.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
How do the audible prayers of Jesus, made to ensure we hear them, impact your walk of faith?
In what ways can His prayers not only teach you about prayer, but also become your own prayers?
Is there any part of your heart that needs to be brought back to life? Do you or does any part of you still feel dead or dark?
Prayer:
Jesus, You are more than capable of bringing life to what is dead. Please meet me in the parts of my heart that are struggling, dark, or lifeless. I want to live fully in every manner possible, open to You and Your plans for me. In Your name, Amen.
