Reconciliation
Jesus With Us

Scripture:
Matthew 5:23-26 (NLT)
"So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God." "When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. And if that happens, you surely won't be free again until you have paid the last penny."
Life Lessons from Jesus:
The central component of walking with Jesus is relationship. He says that the greatest commandment is to love him and love others. Broken relationships eat at the very essence of our peace, and this can affect our relationship with Jesus. If we worship Him with anger and hatred in our heart toward others, we cannot fully absorb the guidance needed along our way. Our reading for today illustrates this principle. We can't offer a sacrifice of praise to God while at the same time harboring problems with other people. The Bible teaches that we are to settle our differences quickly. A critical issue that we see in today's broken and divided world is the disjunct in the message between those who claim to love Jesus but show in their actions that they do not love others, especially if those others are not like them. If we cannot love like Jesus, do we really love Him?
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
Am I angry or resentful with someone?
How can I match MY actions to the messages of Jesus?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for reminding me that my attitudes are just as important as my actions. God help me not to harbor anger in my heart. I pray that Your love will flow through me so that I can unconditionally love others. In Your name, Amen
