Leg 2 Day 24
Something So Much Greater
Jesus Among Us
< BACK
Scripture:
Matthew 13:31-32, Mark 4:30-32
MATTHEW 13:31–32 (MSG) Another story. “God’s kingdom is like an acorn that a farmer plants. It is quite small as seeds go, but in the course of years it grows into a huge oak tree, and eagles build nests in it.” MARK 4:30–32 (CEV) Finally, Jesus said: What is God’s kingdom like? What story can I use to explain it? It is like what happens when a mustard seed is planted in the ground. It is the smallest seed in all the world. But once it is planted, it grows larger than any garden plant. It even puts out branches that are big enough for birds to nest in its shade.
Life Lessons from Jesus:
Mustard seeds are tiny, only one to two millimeters long, but they can grow quickly and spread rapidly. They are almost weed-like in force. Jesus’s message started off being shared between individuals and among small groups but quickly reached crowds and then masses of people. This is how the work of the Holy Spirit spreads. It begins as a small seed that grows in someone’s heart and then spreads to those around them, continuing from person to person until the numbers seem endless. We may feel insignificant at times, but we’re part of something so much greater than we know. If you trust Jesus with your heart and seek His Word, God will grow you to new heights. But even at the start, when your journey is just beginning, God can still use you. Some people mistakenly think that their faith and their walk with God have to be at a certain level before He can use them. Not true. Remember, God is great at meeting people where they are and using what they already have. You’re changing lives already and may not even realize it.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
In what ways does a mustard seed aptly illustrate God’s kingdom?
How do you feel God is growing you spiritually right now?
How have you seen God spread His message through your life and the lives of other believers you know?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for meeting me where I am and using my faith to impact others, no matter how large or small my faith is at the time. Help me to remember that I am an important part of something so much greater than I can see: Your eternal purposes for Your kingdom, which You are carrying out every day. In Your name, amen.
