Scripture:
Matthew 15:29-31
MATTHEW 15:29–31 (NLT) Jesus returned to the Sea of Galilee and climbed a hill and sat down. A vast crowd brought to him people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn’t speak, and many others. They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all. The crowd was amazed! Those who hadn’t been able to speak were talking, the crippled were made well, the lame were walking, and the blind could see again! And they praised the God of Israel.
Life Lessons from Jesus:
What a sight that must have been—crowds bringing an endless line of people to be healed and laying them before Jesus. Just imagine all the mute people sud- denly talking, all the crippled people walking, and all the blind people seeing. With everything that was happening, the people couldn’t help but be amazed. It makes sense that they responded in the way they did, by praising the God who heals. It would have been hard not to. They might not have been sure who Jesus was, but they had faith in His healing power, and they were in awe of it. God does similar miracles in our lives today in the spiritual realm. We lay our brokenness before Him, our hurts and our pains, and He heals them. When we’re weak, He strengthens us. When we’re sad, He wipes away our tears. There is so much we can lay before Him. There is so much we can ask of Him with confidence. He loves giving His children good gifts.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
Once the people were healed, whom did the crowd praise, and why?
What burdens or problems have you laid before Jesus lately, seeking His strength and healing? What might you lay before Him right now?
What type of healing have you seen God do in someone else’s life lately? How might you offer Him praise for it today?
Prayer:
God, You are the great Healer. Thank You for healing so many parts of my life. Thank You for letting me lay all my concerns before You. Help me to have the same confidence in Your power to heal that the crowd at the Sea of Galilee had. Help me to always keep the same sense of awe at what You are capable of doing. In Jesus’s name, amen.
