Leg 3 Day 37
“Return to the Place of John's Baptism”
Jesus Through Us
< BACK
Scripture:
JOHN 10:39-42
JOHN 10:39-42 (NIV) Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.” And in that place many believed in Jesus.
Life Lessons from Jesus:
On more than one occasion, people wanted to stone Jesus, to kill Him, because they couldn’t accept His claim of being the Son of God. In this instance, during the conversation at Solomon’s Colonnade at the Feast of Dedication, Jesus makes a miraculous escape to avoid death. The verses make it clear that He was surrounded, cornered, by people already carrying their weapons of choice. But when they try to grab Him, He manages to get away, despite being surrounded by a bunch of people holding rocks at the ready. God wouldn’t let them touch His Son until exactly the right time—when everything was prepped and ready, and all the pieces had fallen together in the way He wanted them to so every prophecy would be fulfilled. Jesus died on the cross only because He chose it and God allowed it. God’s timing is perfect. It can feel frustrating, it can seem like it’s taking too long or coming on too fast, but we are always in the perfect spot for God’s work when we’re listening to and following Him.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
What does God’s timing in Jesus’ life mean to you in your spiritual journey?
Do you have any examples of God’s timing demonstrated clearly in your life?
Is there anything you feel like you’re waiting on? How are you doing on trusting that He’s in control?
Prayer:
God, Your timing is perfect. Help me to listen and help me to be patient so You can use my life to spread Your love. Remind me that You are in control when I start to doubt or worry. Thank You for allowing Your Son to give His life for us, to pay off our debts. I am forever grateful. In Your name, Amen.
