Jesus Through Us

Scripture:
JOHN 11:55-57
JOHN 11:55-57 (CEV) It was almost time for Passover. Many of the Jewish people who lived out in the country had come to Jerusalem to get themselves ready for the festival.  They looked around for Jesus. Then when they were in the temple, they asked each other, “You don't think he will come here for Passover, do you?”  The chief priests and the Pharisees told the people to let them know if any of them saw Jesus. This is how they hoped to arrest him.
Life Lessons from Jesus:
Passover is a celebration that dates back to the Exodus. Families that painted lamb’s blood over the doorposts of their homes for the final plague were saved back in Egypt when the Israelites were under the thumb of Pharoah. As time passed, they continued to celebrate their salvation at God’s hands. But the world’s overall salvation wasn’t complete. No other being or creature could save us all, eternally. Jesus came as God’s spotless and sacrificial lamb. And we’re coming up on the specific moment Jesus came for. Jesus’ final week is the focal point of all the Gospels. One-third of both Matthew and Mark deals with these final seven days. One-fourth of Luke and almost half of John’s Gospel are spent describing it. Of the 89 chapters in the four Gospels, 29 of them speak to His final week. The central point of His life and ministry is His sacrifice on the cross.
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
What does the amount of biblical material on the last week of Jesus say to you about the importance of the cross? How does this apply to your spiritual life?
Do you continue to celebrate your salvation? What do you think it looks like to continue celebrating your salvation?
Prayer:
Jesus, You lived a perfect life on earth to sacrifice Yourself for us. Thank You so much for loving us this much. Thank You for choosing to endure this in order to save us. In Your name, Amen.
