Scripture:
MATTHEW 26:17-19
MATTHEW 26:17-19 (The Message) On the first of the Days of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Where do you want us to prepare your Passover meal?” He said, “Enter the city. Go up to a certain man and say, ‘The Teacher says, My time is near. I and my disciples plan to celebrate the Passover meal at your house.’” The disciples followed Jesus’ instructions to the letter, and prepared the Passover meal. SEE ALSO: MARK 14:12-16; LUKE 22:7-13
Life Lessons from Jesus:
The Passover Celebration was extremely important in biblical times. It would be even more significant for Jesus and His disciples with everything about to come. Historians estimate that three million people attended the feast. This would make finding accommodations extraordinarily difficult. It would have been impossible to find a room large enough for Jesus and His disciples without the necessary preparations already handled. It may seem ironic that there was no room at the inn for His own Son’s birth, but God did prepare an upper room big enough for Jesus to properly celebrate a final Passover with His disciples before He headed to the cross. God is all about the details and there are reasons behind His every action. God took care of these minute details so Jesus could spend this valuable time with His disciples in His last days. When we’re on a path with God, we can rest assured He’s taking care of our journey too, down to the minutiae. Many details are so small, they slip through our consciousness without a second thought. There are so many things coming together all the time for us that we don’t even notice at times when God is at work. Think about that!
The WAY:
Consider these questions as you reflect on today’s reading:
Do you trust God with the details of your life?
What areas do you find it harder to trust Him and why?
When has something unexpectedly come together for you at the last minute?
Prayer:
God, thank You for taking care of the details in the background, the things we don’t even notice. Help me to be more grateful for all that You do, both seen and unseen. Thank You for caring so much about the details in our lives. In Your name, Amen.
